Training During a Pandemic – As we move through Term 2, let’s look back on some positive comments from Associate Teachers experience of training with Oxfordshire Teacher Training SCITT during Term 1.

‘I feel incredibly well supported. I am delighted by how much I have learnt in such a short time and the quality of teaching I have observed has been fantastic. Like all schools, Cherwell is having to cope with an unprecedented amount of change at the moment. Despite that, I have been so impressed with the resilience of the staff, the commitment to do the best job they can & I love the ethos of the school. It is a fabulous community to be part of.  The Cherwell School has been excellent, both in its induction of new teachers and in its handling of the current global pandemic. I have felt nothing but excitement and enjoyment since joining the community, and have found it to be the perfect place to start my career in teaching.’

‘I am very impressed with DGS, in particular the support from all members of staff (not just my mentor) in providing comprehensive feedback from every lesson I teach. This has been invaluable as I am increasing my teaching hours and constantly trying out new strategies and teaching techniques. The school is incredibly supportive of me as a trainee and highly values the training process. I feel they have struck a good balance of giving me responsibility and opportunity whilst creating a supporting training environment in which I feel safe.’

‘I am so pleased I am at Wheatley. There is a lot of support from my mentor, the senior link and the maths department. My mentor teaches in the way we are taught to teach and her behaviour management skills are really impressive so I know I will learn loads from her. She is giving me access to lots of different teachers and year groups so I am experiencing the whole range of pupils and styles of teaching.’

‘Initially, I felt very uneasy going into a new school after being at my last one. However, my mentor and whole department have been very welcoming and helpful. They respect me as an individual and appreciate my input during department meetings. The whole school is a fantastic place to be in, and the students are a testament to the cohesion and the team-work of all staff, who are nothing short of brilliant.’

‘I’ve loved being in my placement school so far. The school have been really supportive in allowing me to get stuck in straight away. They have also been reassuring in discussing areas that I want to develop and giving me the time to familiarise myself with their planning and class routines so I can use these ideas effectively in my own practice.’

‘I’ve been made to feel very welcome and a part of the MFL department and the school more generally. My mentor, along with other teachers, have given me really constructive and positive feedback when observing me and, I feel, are really helping me to develop as a teacher. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.’

‘The Cherwell School has been excellent, both in its induction of new teachers and in its handling of the current global pandemic. I have felt nothing but excitement and enjoyment since joining the community, and have found it to be the perfect place to start my career in teaching.’

‘I love my placement school! Staff are very friendly and my faculty are amazingly supportive! I am really learning a lot about how I can adapt my teaching through the school.’

‘I’m really enjoying my placement school and have a strong relationship with my mentor who is capable and engaging. I’m enjoying relating the content of the SCITT to in-school practice.’
