Application Support Workshops

Application Support Workshops, these are free events, all held online via Zoom, they are designed to support if you are considering applying to our courses or if you have been invited to interview and would like guidance on how best to prepare. A member of our SCITT Team will give you advice with: the application process; how to prepare for the recruitment and selection day; what to expect following your application and they will give course details for your particular training route.

  • More dates will be released in the autumn term for a September 2025 start.

School Experience

The best way to decide whether or not teaching might be the right career for you is to get some classroom experience. OTT SCITT operates a School Experience Programme in partnership schools, to offer interested applicants a chance to get into state schools and see what life in the classroom is really like.  Placements are typically one or two days long with the majority of the time being spent in the classroom in lessons. As well as giving you invaluable insight into whether or not teaching might be right for you these placements also provide you with relevant school experience to support an application for teacher training.

Visiting a school prior to application can help you:

  • strengthen your ITT application;
  • check your understanding of what it means to teach in the state school system currently;
  • provide you with live examples to reflect upon when asked about your motivations to teach at interview;
  • decide if teaching is the career for you, and identify further the relevant age-range and subject areas of interest.

A SEP visit will provide you with the opportunity to:

  • meet current Associate Teachers, qualified teachers and Senior Leaders;
  • visit lessons and observe experienced teachers;
  • find out more about the curriculum and subject content;
  • find out more about effective classroom management;
  • understand the significance of safeguarding in an educational setting.

If you are interested in gaining school experience but cannot see any suitable dates below, you may find it best to contact a few schools directly.  Liaising with the school, over what you would like from the visit, can be very helpful and leads to a fulfilling experience for all.  Schools are usually very welcoming to these requests, so do make contact via the reception/school office of the school of your choice, in the first instance.
